Creeping Thyme is a fragrant, spreading perennial that is native to northwest Europe. Plants form dense mats that create an excellent ground-cover. Creeping Thyme grows four to six inches tall, and the lavender flowers appear just above the foliage. As with many species in the mint family, the flowers of Creeping Thyme attract many bees.

Sowing: Direct sow bulk creeping thyme seeds in spring, planting just below the surface of the soil. Keep the soil lightly moist until germination, which usually occurs within 3-4 weeks. This plant can also be started indoors 4-6 weeks before the last frost of spring.
Growing: Water seedlings occasionally until they become established. Though they prefer average or slightly moist soil, mature plants tolerate drought and poor soil as well as rocky soil or gravel. This plant will self-seed readily, and attracts butterflies and bees. It makes an excellent ground cover or border plant. Mature plants can be divided.
Harvesting: Creeping thyme blossoms do not perform well as cut flowers, and are best enjoyed outdoors as ground cover.
