    Description

    Antique MANDELETTE (RPPC)
    Black Americana: Butcher, Woman, Dog
This is a RPPC MANDELETTE postcard. “Copyright 1911By The Chicago Ferrotype Co.” The stamp area says: MANDEL’S Positive Process, No Negatives.”
This RARE postcard has a dark black gloss finish, unlike RPPC’s that are matt. It is also smaller—3”x4.”
The (lightened) photo shows a black couple. The man has a cap that says PAINT on it; wears a butcher’s apron and is holding a knife and sharpener. The black woman is holding an iron. There is a spaniel (“OLD BESS”) sitting on a ROLLED OATS wood crate. They have a tree behind them, so it was taken outside.
(I included a 2nd similar postcard for sale separately in the pictures because the hand
writing on the back names the dog.)
It has 1 top corner that is slightly bumped, and lower edge has a tiny 1/16 area where the finish didn’t go to the edge (original).
Otherwise, it is in very good condition.
