DESCRIPTION:
,950.* No, that

s not the monthly lease payment.
It’s actually the purchase price.
Which is surprisingly low for a vehicle with features founded on the rather distinguished legacy of Land Rover engineering.
That simply means there’s hardly a stretch of earth on earth that can so much as slow it down.
There’s barely an uninhabited corner of the world that a Land Rover has
not, at one time or another, inhabited.
Regardless of any additional challenges posed by rainstorms, hail-
storms, or snowstorms.
So why not call for the Land Rover dealer nearest you and see this extraordinarily equipped vehicle for yourself.
Because with all the Discovery has to offer, ,950 is certainly an impressive list price.
Especially when you consider everything that’s on the list.
* 1997 Model Year Vehicle MSRP is ,950 incl. dealer prep and destination and handling charges. Excludes taxes & licenses. Actual price depends on dealer & subject to change without notice. Tread lightly  - Drive responsibly off road. Please buckle up for security. ©1996 Land Rover
LAND ROVER DISCOVERY - Always use your seat belts. SRS/airbags alone do not provide sufficient protection.
Apparently the British are great lovers.
You

re looking at one satisfied customer. That’
s because the Land Rover Discovery can easily handle five kicking, screaming, mud-wheeling kids. As well as their exhausted mother. It's permanent 4 wheel drive, 4.0 liter V8 engine, and coil spring suspension enable you to take the whole household on trips that would impress even a teenager. What
’s more, dual sunroofs and raised rear seating help the little ones see the top, bottom, and middle of any mountain. Except while you’re in the clouds, of course. With a steel inner body cage, side impact beams, and dual airbags, the Discovery is one thing you won’t mind your kids getting into. So why not come for a test drive? After all, driving a vehicle as capable as the Discovery could inspire you to become the world's greatest lover. Of the outdoors, that is.

LAND ROVER - Pulling Together
The most useful piece of recovery equipment we can carry is another vehicle! We then need, of course, something to tie the two vehicles together and the most useful and easiest thing to use is a piece of rope.
For straight pulling, polyester rope is the best followed by polypropylene. However, these ropes should not be used for 'snatch" or KERR (kinetic energy recovery rope) recoveries.
Using the figures from our last column we would, pulling a 2,000 kg vehicle up a 45 degree slope out of a marsh, need a pull of 2,000 x 1/2 + 45 x 1/60 = 2,500 kg and plus 1/4 safety, we get a total of 3,125 kg. If we are going to use 1/5th of the breaking strain of the rope, we need a rope that is about 3/4" (2 cm) diameter. We also need tow points on the vehicles that can withstand these forces. Unless specific tow points are provided, the chassis should be used but care must be taken to prevent damage to brake lines etc.
A clevis pin or shackle is also useful to protect the rope from sharp edges and if loops have to be tied in the rope, we use a bowline as this knot can be always untied even after a very strong "pull."
Nylon is very strong but stretches the most and so it is unsuitable for normal pulling. It is however useful in a KERR recovery situation and a future column will be devoted to this particularly effective but dangerous form of recovery.
The Off-Road Corner is sponsored by Land Rover Canada in association with THE 4x4 EXPERIENCE, Canada's first offroad driving school, for more information call Andy Philpotts.
Canadian kids will be Canadian kids.
Winter is upon us again.
So what better place to be than inside a Land Rover Discovery?
Equipped with permanent four-wheel drive, a 14-gauge steel chassis, and a 4.0-liter V8 engine, it can take you deep, and we mean deep, into the Canadian wilderness.
It has dual airbags, a steel inner body cage, and all-terrain ABS, in
case you encounter something more formidable than a ball of snow.
Yet with all it has to offer, perhaps
the Discovery’s most impressive feature is its ,950* price tag.

It’s a distinctive-looking vehicle often occupied by as many as seven passengers. You can’t miss it.
