P. edulis
is one of the most beautiful species of bamboo-- having a light, feathery appearance from a distance.
Mature plants have decorative foliage, with leaves hanging down like a waterfall, and is a good background plant for large landscapes.
This particular species is the most common in the bamboo textile industry of China-- its physical properties have an average breaking tenacity more than 3x that of cotton, wool, rayon, or polyester.
It is grown in large plantations and harvested for a variety of products including timber, fencing, furniture, construction material, paper, plywood, flooring, musical instruments and fishing poles.
Moso is a winter-hardy bamboo, and the shoots are the most commonly eaten variety-- it shoots early, and delicious shoots can even be dug in the winter, when no others are available.
Moso bamboo has become an important symbol of prosperity in Japanese culture.
It is useful on slopes for combating soil erosion and as a privacy screen.
Storage:  Cool, clean, dry area; keep seeds away from strong, direct sunlight.
Growing Recommendations:
1.   Remove outer brack from seeds (if present). Soak seeds in 85 degrees Fahrenheit (30 degrees Celsius) water for 24 hours. Temperatures over 105 F can kill your seeds. Cooler temperatures, however, will not hurt the seeds, but may delay germination by a few days.
2.  Pour seed-starting mix into a large bowl or bucket. Add small amounts of water to soil, while stirring by hand, until it feels moderately moist throughout.
3.  Fill seedling trays with moistened soil and sow 1-2 seeds 1/4" deep.
4.  Spritz each cell with a water spray bottle to settle the seed-starting mix around the bamboo seeds.
5.  Cover the seedling trays with a clear propagation lid or plastic wrap. Place the mini greenhouse in a location where it will get medium shade.   NOTE: Do not allow seedling trays to get too much direct sun. Even a mini greenhouse can quickly get to high temperatures in hot direct sun, resulting in killing your seeds.
6.  Keep soil mix moist. After sprouting, seeds can die in a matter of hours if they dry out.
7.  Sprouts may appear within 10 days, although the bulk of germination will occur after at least 15 or 20 days. Some may take up to 2 months to sprout.
8.  Remove propagation lid before any sprouts can reach it. Harden sprouts off gradually to outdoor temperature, and transplant to permanent location, spacing 4 inches apart, when sprouts are 4 inches tall.
The bamboo plants should be provided a generous layer of rich topsoil consisting of compost or aged manure or mulch, and allowed plenty of room to grow.
