    Malabar spinach is in the
    Basellaceae family
    , not the spinach family. The taste is similar to spinach, however this crop is a very warm-season crop unlike standard spinach grown in the Northeastern US. This crop is native to tropical Asia, probably originating from India or Indonesia, and is extremely heat tolerant.
    Malabar spinach grows vertically and needs a trellis to support its fast growth. Malabar spinach does well in full sun.
    In zone 7 and higher, it can be direct seeded in the garden two to three weeks after last frost date . Other zones start indoor  8 weeks before the last frost date .
