The LS404 provides the Low Noise and Low Distortion along with the High Stability needed for active filters. The main benefit of this Op-Amp in active filters is the elimination of bulky and expensive precision inductors required in obsolete LC designs. RC components used with the '404 make the frequency response and Q enormously easier to tune and adjust. There are many internet sites with design information and even free software to create your own custom design from a few to many poles for low-pass, high-pass, band-pass, band-stop applications. Try Googling "active filters".
