Commonly used in professional landscapes as it is very easy to shape due to the way the branches form. Make the perfect square, circle or any shape you can think of with Boxwood. Potted boxwood plants dress up entrances nicely and bring a sense of structure and formality to a space. The leaves on the Chinese Boxwood are only 1/4 of an inch long, which makes the bush look tight and dense.
How to Grow and Care for Buxus Boxwood:
Plant 2-3 seeds per planting space (if using a pot, also stick to 2-3 seeds in the container). Space plants 2 ft apart for a separated row. If creating a hedge where you want the branches to collide together, plant them 1 foot and a half apart. Fertilize in spring or fall months when there is less heat. Prune or shape in spring. If you prune too late in the year the plants might not make it through winter conditions. Ensure new seedlings get at least an inch of water a week. Apply mulch to retain moisture to the planting area.
Germination procedure:
Soak seeds in a glass of water for 24 hrs before stratifying. If not planting in the fall for overwintering, apply 1 months cold stratification in the freezer before sowing. Sow at 1/8 an inch depth. Keep seeds and soil moist after potting or traying.
