500+Broadleaf Batavian Endive Seeds(Cichorium endivia) Escarole Vegetable USAThis variety has a pleasantly bitter taste and can be eaten like other greens either fresh as part of a green salad, or sauteed or chopped and added into soups and stews. Low in fat, cholesterol and calories. The "bitter" is indicative of benefits to the liver (this is true of leaves and root). Also good for inflammation and swelling.
It’s also a rich source of dietary fiber, magnesium and potassium. Escarole’s other benefits include reduced glucose levels, improved eyesight, stimulation of digestive enzymes, improved skin health and it acts as a natural diuretic.
Sowing and Growing:
Direct seed in spring, 2-3 seeds every 16".
Germination in 5-10 days.
Grow much like any other green. All endive likes cool weather, lots of moisture and rich, well-drained soil. Bed should be kept well-weeded. As with all greens, a border of ash will help deter slugs. Frilly can be harvested when full or blanched like Belgian endive.
In hot regions it is best to plant endive early or late in the season when the days are cooler.
Maturity in 80-90 days
