Argyreia nervosa var. speciosa is a perennial climbing vine, native to the Indian subcontinent and introduced to numerous areas worldwide, including Hawaii, Africa, and the Caribbean Islands.
It is now being cultivated in many tropical areas throughout the world.
Most of the seeds sold today, originate from India and Africa, and is of the speciosa variety.
The main difference between varieties is that the Argyreia nervosa var. speciosa variety is used in ayurvedic medicine, In which the roots and leaves were once used by ancient natives as a natural treatment for erectile dysfunction, syphilis, diabetes, and many other complaints, particularly those related to the digestive system.

More commonly known as elephant creeper or wooley, this perennial flowering vine, is in the same family, as the Woodrose. It also has been said, to be derived from the appearance of the seed pods, which look like little wooden roses. Its leaves are heart-shaped and its trumpet-shaped flowers are white with deep purple throats.
Argyreia nervosa speciosa is said to originate in Asia (Bangladesh) despite the plant’s newer home, throughout the tropics.  Argyreia nervosa plants are slow-growing at first but will grow rapidly after reaching about twelve inches and can easily reach thirty feet with maturity. is a vine, it will need structure to climb and is especially useful in providing privacy with a floral decor to beautify fences, mailboxes and trellis's. These plants can be grown outdoors all year round where temperatures stay mild and do not freeze or can be planted in pots and brought indoors to avoid the cold winter frost.
