Blue Virgins Bower (Clematis occidentalis) Seeds 35+

Description

Blue Virgin's Bower is a climbing, partial-shade loving perennial with a woody stem and masses of delicate, nodding, bell-shaped, blue-violet to pinkish-purple flowers, up to 2 inches wide.
The lovely blue flowering vine (Zones 3 - 5) prefers higher elevations and temperate climates. The seeds usually take about a month to germinate, but in some instances, it may take much longer. Blue Virgin's Bower is very slow growing and requires a shady are and nearby trees or shrubs to climb up.  Expect blooms no sooner than three years time, but more likely four years.
Sow the seeds in early spring in a shallow tray or another suitable container in a mixture of equal parts loam, peat, and sand. Push the seeds lightly below the surface of the growing medium and keep it moist.
It is best to place them in a cool place with indirect sunlight because the seeds need a chilling period to germinate.
The seedlings can be transplanted outdoors when the danger of frost has passed.
