    NECKERCHIEF SLIDE
The leaders of the tribe were called chiefs and were chosen by the rest of the tribe. A tribal chief or chieftain is the leader of a tribal society or chiefdom. There have been many great Indian chiefs throughout history.  To become an Indian chief, you had to prove that you were strong, brave, and a great leader. The chiefs were almost always men. There have been women chiefs. A tribe could have more than one chief. For example, one chief could be the leader for hunting, another could be the warrior leader, and another could be the chief during day-to-day living.

The Native American headdress is a well-known symbol of strength and bravery to the indigenous people of North America. Headdresses are important because they have been worn by the most powerful and influential members of the tribe. There are many types of headdresses that have different styles and meanings but one similarity among them all is that they had to be earned to be worn. Both men & women can wear a headdress - the only difference would be some men wore the war bonnet style and women would wear a beaded headband style.
War bonnets (also called warbonnets or headdresses) are feathered headgear traditionally worn by male leaders of the American Plains Indians Nations who have earned a place of great respect in their tribe. Originally they were sometimes worn into battle, but they are now primarily used for ceremonial occasions. In the Native American and First Nations communities that traditionally have these items of regalia, they are seen as items of great spiritual and political importance, only to be worn by those who have earned the right and honour through formal recognition by their people.
Since the early days of the Boy Scouts of America, Neckerchiefs have been used. They were introduced as part of the uniform as identification, as well as the ability to use them for a bandage for First Aid needs. The neckerchief slide has become a way for a Scout to personalize his uniform by using all kinds of decorative slides. From home made to
Magnus, Neal and Torchy slides became very popular over the years.
This auction is for a vintage hand painted plaster

This collection belonged to a life-long Scouter who passed away in 2000. He earned his Eagle award about the age of 17, which would make it around 1959 (ish). He spent his life devoted to Scouting serving as Scoutmaster and at Boy Scout summer camps for over 15 years in positions from counselor to eventually camp director.
He was a ten year member and Vice President of the local Volunteer Fire Co., ten year member of the area Hazardous Materials Response Team and the town Tax Payers Association and was an Eagle Scout with Gold & Silver Palms, one of the highest ranks in Scouting.
A bronze palm represents five additional merit badges, a gold palm 10, and a silver palm 15. 1 gold palm and 1 silver palm = 46 total merit badges (21 required + 25 additional)
I cannot divulge his identity because I don't have the family's permission, nor sufficient background information on him.
