    -- ** SELDOM SEEN VARIETY **
    Centennial Booklet #57
    -NF
    THE MisPerf Edge Pane
    Elusive
There were a number of Centennial Booklet Varieties that I searched for over the years. The one that eluded me the longest was the FULLY Straight Edge (Left or Right Side of Pane). Eventually my search rewarded me with that specific Pane. The search left me with 2-3 'almost' Straight Edge Panes, this being one of them.
I like to include the following with this variety, as it is sometimes missed by the Collector.
    Could this be faked
? If you were to take a pair of scissors or blade and cut away the perfs on one side, you would indeed have an Straight Edge pane on that side. However, you would also have a pane of stamps that was now narrower in size from the original. Such is NOT the case with this pane. The genuineness of the pane is further supported by the Right side of the pane where you are able to 'make up for' what was lost on the Left, i.e. you will get a pane measuring 73mm in width. As Robin Harris notes in his Centennial Reference Book when speaking to the possibility of
    creating
a Straight Edge Pane, " this would lead to a narrower stamp and a straight edge that is not consistent with real booklets -- p.92, bottom."
It is now time for this Scarce Centennial Variety to take it's place alongside other worthy Centennial Items. Final Point -- this Cover has the FINE Print versus the BOLD Print also to be found on the Cover.
    Placing things into perspective
or as they say 'Go Figure'.
Canada Post had no idea how Booklet #57, the first large booklet containing 25 stamps would be accepted. Perhaps that's why the issued numbers were so low. We do know that most of the booklets were used by large mailers and small business. Given the very low issue of 645,000 booklets ( compare that to most others where you have 1-2 Million) we have to wonder how many survived these past 55 years. The assumption on the part of the CV$ is that some 60%+ percent are available today. It that's the case there has to be someone, 55 years later still sitting on one heck of a pile of Booklet#57!
