Description
This is an lovely Art Deco glass vanity jar with two Lovebirds as a finial on the lid. The lid and jar are in a lovely green satin finish. The lid has a lovely raised floral and leaf motif in a very pale green color. The jar and flat portion of the lid are a pale, semi-opaque satin green. It is approximately 1 3/4 inches tal without the lid on itl by 4 1/4 inches wide, perfect for cosmetics or trinkets. With the lid on it it is 4 3/4" tall. This original Art Deco jar is in very good condition without cracks or chips. It does have the air bubbles which are characteristic of most Depression Glass. The white lines on the rim of the base are rub marks. Otherwise, only slight wear due to use and age and still has original puff. This powder puff jar is listed in "Bedroom and Bathroom Glassware of the Depression Years" by Margaret and Kenn Whitmyer, page 19. It was made by Greensburg Glass Works, a corporation of L.E. Smith Glass Co. L.E. Smith Glass Co. was established in 1907 in Jeannette, Pennsylvania. They began producing colored glass in the mid 1920’s. Pink, green, amber, yellow, amethyst and cobalt were being made as early as 1926. Although the jar isn’t marked, some sellers list the maker as L.E. Smith Glass Co. of Mt.
