PHAEDRANASSA CARMIOLII, Costa Rica, Very RARE Bulb!!!

Description

The mountains of Tropical America are home to many unusual bulbs, including those in the genus
Phaedranassa.
There are 10 described species, most known only from Ecuador, with one (
P. lehmannii
) endemic to Colombia and one (
P. carmiolii
) found only in Costa Rica. Like most
Phaedranassa
species,
P. carmiolii
has elongate green paddle-shaped leaves, sometimes with a glaucous underside. It blooms in the winter to early spring with large clusters of pendulous green and red flowers on a tall stem. More information about this genus can be found on the Pacific Bulb Society's website.
Phaedranassa carmiolii
occurs in central Costa Rica at elevations of 1400 -1800 m (6000 feet), and thrives outdoors in coastal southern California at temperatures that can exceed 90 deg F during the summer and drop to 35-40 deg F for brief periods during the winter. I grow it in a location that receives direct sun during the morning and bright indirect light during the remainder of the day. This species grows nicely in a potting mix that drains very well and doesn't stay too soggy. I use a mixture of pumice, perlite and peat.
This listing is for one nearly mature plant of this lovely species. The first photo shows
P. carmiolii
in bloom. You are bidding on the healthy plant in photos 2-5, growing nicely in a 4" pot. This plant will be unpotted and shipped bare root.
I floated a group of seeds from this batch, and they exhibited a germination rate >80% in the first four weeks.
