incredibly
rare
PS Systems external, 2U rackmount SCSI drive with a Syquest SQ555 44MB tape drive installed. PS Systems was a manufacturer of memory expansions and accessories for samplers and synthesizers. This unit was previously used with an Ensoniq EPS sampler, but could be used with many other Ensoniq, Akai, E-MU, Yamaha, Roland, etc. samplers, recorders, and equipment from this era.
The internal power supply was recently replaced with a brand new assembly, ensuring many more years of flawless operation
. The power supply has a universal input (90-260 VAC) and will work with line/mains power any where in the world. The rack has internal termination resistors which can be configured on the rear panel. I've included a brand new SCSI terminator which may be needed depending on how you setup your SCSI chain. The SCSI interface is SCSI-1 / CN50, which has an internal 50-pin flat ribbon connected to the tape drive. You could replace the tape drive with another SCSI drive or even a fixed drive. There is space to the right (front-facing, internally) to add another drive, but no cut-out for an external drive. A simple modification to the internal ribbon cable would be required to connect another internal drive. For convenience, I've included standard rack screws with washers as well as an IEC power cable.
This device will require configuration, internally on the SCSI drive settings, termination settings, as well as formatting and setup on a computer or instrument to operate correctly.
Please understand - THIS IS NOT A PLUG-AND-PLAY SCSI DRIVE.
Depending on the instrument, the SCSI setup can be nuanced and difficult.
I cannot provide ANY support related to configuring, connecting, or installing this unit.
Condition:
Cosmetically, the unit is a 7.5/10. There typical scratches on the rackmount enclosure. No major dents, gouges, or mechanical flaws. The front and rear panel text is crisp and clear. There is some slight wear to on the tape drive flap and loading arm - but nothing which effects the operation. Pulled from a working studio environment.
