    Description

For sale is 1 lb of Seed Garlic in Bulb form. It is grown on our own farm at western Pennsylvania.  They are harvested in July 2021 and cured for 2021 fall planting. For a 1 Pound (1 order), you will receive 10-12 full Bulbs depending on the size of the bulbs. Listing price includes free shipping. This 1 lb listing is the medium size order we offer. We also offer a large 5 lb and a small 1/4 lb listings.
The order will be shipped from Vermont. This has generated some confusion among our past buyers. The fact is that we just moved our farm from PA to VT this past season, so our garlic was grown in PA, but we have brought them here to VT to replant and are selling the excess stock. Our next year's seed garlic will be labelled as VT grown.: )
The garlic variety for sale is “Music”. "Music" is an heirloom variety of hardneck garlic. Hardneck garlic produces scapes and generally has fewer, but larger, cloves than soft neck. Hardneck garlic is generally not braided for storage like softneck is. Hardneck "Music" garlic is well suited for cold northern climates. In northern climates, garlic is fall planted sometime between the end of September and the end of October. Very cold and windy places should not wait for the end of October. Cloves are separated individually from the bulb and pushed into the ground making sure to keep them oriented upright with the root side downward. They can be planted in a grid pattern 6 inches spacing in row and 10 inches between rows. Rich soil that is moist but well drained will provide best results.
Your Garlic will be harvested the following season in July. Or when 4 of the lower leaves have yellowed and died back. Waiting too long to pull garlic can result in disease and separating bulbs that makes removal difficult. Too early, and storage is poor.
Garlic should be cured as a whole plant. It should be placed out of the sun in a place with good airflow. After a month or more of dry-down the bulbs can be trimmed of stalks and roots and stored in a cool dry place. They will keep for months depending on integrity of the bulb. Refrigeration can keep them longer, if you have a way to prevent humidity from encouraging molds.
