    How to Plant Standing Cypress
ABOUT STANDING CYPRESS: Standing Cypress, also known as scarlet gilia, Texas plume, flame flower, and indian spur, is a native North American flowering plant in the phlox family. With bright red, upturned flowers, this is a hummingbird favorite!
WHEN TO PLANT CYPRESS SEEDS: Standing Cypress is a great candidate for Fall planting, when soul temperatures range from 65-70°. You can also start indoors in Spring, 6-8 weeks before your final frost date, and transfer outdoors after the threat of frost has passed.
WHERE TO PLANT CYPRESS SEEDS: Hardy in Zones 6-10, Standing Cypress does best in soil that is dry, sandy, or rocky, in Full Sun conditions.
HOW TO PLANT CYPRESS SEEDS: Broadcast sow onto the surface soil, and compress firmly. Don't cover your seeds, as they require sunlight to germinate. You'll begin to see growth in 2-4 weeks.
HOW TO CARE FOR CYPRESS: Ensure that soil isn't too moist or rich, as that can encourage root rot in this variety. Once established, Standing Cypress are drought tolerant. When conditions are dry, water once deeply, then let the soil dry before watering again. As a tall growing variety, you may need to stake them as they reach maturity. After blooming, cut the stalks of Standing Cypress to encourage further blooms.
