MDF
The Lone Star Stereo VIP “Melody”
MDF
turntable platform base is constructed of 1.5"  MDF, which is used by several turntable manufactures for the plinth and even the platter because of its acoustically neutral properties.
The surface of the platform base is coated in a black rubber-based sound absorbing spray material. Our most popular model.
Deluxe Solid MDF
The Deluxe Melody platform is 2.25" thick with  greater mass to further absorb vibrations. It is finished in the same coating as the standard MDF VIP.
Deluxe with Lead Core
This Deluxe Melody platform is 2.25" thick with a lead shot center core and much greater mass to further absorb vibrations. It is finished in the same coating as the standard MDF VIP.
SORBOTHANE
The feet are
pure Sorbothane, which will isolate up to 94.7% of acoustic vibration from the surface where your turntable is placed.

he key to absorbing vibrations is the Sorbothane feet. Sorbothane is a highly damped, visco-elastic polymeric
solid
that displaces like a liquid under load.
"Under load" is the key phrase. The correct size and density for a given load is most important. Too heavy a load and it will not perform, too light, and it will not work.
